A Decade of Christmas, Part 1: How It All Began (2015–2019)
Quick Answer
Our very first Christmas design was The Original Personalised Christmas Bauble — the one we still call "the OG" — launched for Christmas 2015. It's the single piece that kicked off everything that followed. We moved onto Shopify in November 2016, which is when the rest of that early range came online alongside it.
We've been making Christmas keepsakes for a decade now, and looking back through our own history is a bit like flipping through old photos. This is Part 1 of a three-part series tracing that history — starting right at the very beginning, with the one bauble that started it all.
2015: The Bauble That Started It All
The Original Personalised Christmas Bauble
This is the one we still call "the OG." Our own product description says it best: "the one bauble that beats every other bauble there ever was." Launched for Christmas 2015, The Original Personalised Christmas Bauble was our very first Christmas design — the piece that launched the success of every Christmas collection that followed. Nearly a decade later, in 2025, we'd bring it back in a stripped-back plain bamboo edition as part of an anniversary-style relaunch (more on that in Part 3).
2016: Moving Onto Shopify
In November 2016, we moved the business onto Shopify — and that's the point our product records really begin. A handful of pieces from that early range came online together that month: My First Christmas Bauble, The Best Ever Christmas Bauble, a Teacher Christmas Bauble, and our very first gift tags and swing tags.
It's easy to forget, looking at the range now, that it started this small. A first Christmas keepsake, a teacher thank-you, a bragging-rights bauble for the favourites — the emotional territory the whole collection still covers today was there from the very beginning.
2017: Building the Traditions
The following year brought fewer new designs but a shift toward tradition-building. Our Advent Calendar Tags Set arrived in August 2017 — a beautifully etched set of number tags designed to be reused every December rather than thrown away after one season. A few months later, the 'Santa' Swing Tag introduced a smaller, Christmas Eve–specific keepsake, and our Want, Need, Wear, Read Tags got their first etched update.
2018: The Range Branches Out
By late 2018, the range had genuinely branched out. The Glittered Christmas Bauble brought texture and sparkle for the first time. The Lace Mirror Christmas Bauble pushed into genuinely luxe territory. And two pieces launched that would define entire sub-categories for years to come: the Personalised Pet Christmas Bauble — the first of what's now a whole family of pet-themed pieces — and the Engaged/Mr & Mrs Christmas Bauble, our first bauble made specifically for couples.
2019: Growing Into Something Bigger
2019 is where the collection stopped feeling like a handful of designs and started feeling like a proper range. Eleven new pieces launched across the year, and a few of them mattered more than most.
Te Reo Māori range — May 2019
Our first bilingual pieces, bringing te reo Māori into the Want, Need, Wear, Read gift tag tradition.
In Loving Memory Christmas Bauble — August 2019
The very first memorial bauble we ever made — the beginning of a gentle, ongoing part of the collection.
The same year also brought our Personalised Santa Treat Board — a Christmas Eve tradition piece that's still one of our most enduring designs — along with the Christmas Photo Holder, Personalised Christmas Stars, and the Personalised Frosted Christmas Bauble.
What's Next
By the end of 2019, the foundation was set: a signature bauble that started it all in 2015, a growing family of occasion and audience-specific pieces, and the beginnings of both our Te Reo Māori range and our memorial collection. Part 2 picks up in 2020, when the range would nearly double in a single year.
