A Decade of Christmas, Part 2: The Expansion Years (2020–2022)

Whānau Kirihimete Bauble by Love from Seventeen NZ, a 2020 collaboration with Ani Huia Art

Quick Answer

Between 2020 and 2022, our Christmas range grew from a tidy handful of designs to nearly fifty. It's the period that brought our first collaboration (the Kirihimete range with Ani Huia Art), a full makeover for the OG bauble, and the beginnings of what's now a proper family of memorial keepsakes.

If Part 1 was about finding our feet, this is the era where the range genuinely took off. This is Part 2 of our three-part series — picking up where the foundation left off in 2019.

2020: Collaboration and Tradition

2020 introduced our first proper design collaboration: the Whānau Kirihimete Bauble and Aotearoa Kirihimete Bauble, both created with Ani Huia Art. It was a meaningful step — bringing te ao Māori design into the Christmas range in a way our earlier bilingual gift tags had only begun to touch on.

The same year also brought our Decorate Your Own Christmas Bauble — a plain MDF bauble designed for kids to paint and personalise themselves — along with the Bow Christmas Bauble, Winter Wonderland Christmas Bauble, Santa Stop Here Door Hanger, and a second Teacher Christmas Bauble design.

2021: The Year Everything Expanded

Seventeen new designs launched in 2021 alone — more than doubling everything that had come before it. It's genuinely the turning point where the range stopped being a tight collection and became something closer to what it is today.

The OG Bauble Gets a Makeover

The Personalised Christmas Tree Bauble launched as what we called at the time "the Original Christmas Bauble 2.0" — a half-painted evolution of the design that started it all back in 2015.

New Milestones, New Families

Guardian Angel Memory Bauble

A deeply personal design that expanded our memorial range beyond the single 2019 original.

Lovers Christmas Bauble & First Home Key Ornament

Two new milestone pieces — one for couples, one for first-home buyers — extending the range beyond babies and families.

The rest of the year filled out fast: an Alpha Wreath Bauble, First Christmas Laurel Bauble, Christmas Snowflakes and Christmas Trees, a Halo Bauble, a Star Teacher Bauble, two Reindeer Treat ornaments, a Christmas Countdown Banner, Santa's Footprints Stencil, a Height Memory Bauble, and a Script edition of our Want, Need, Wear, Read Tags.

2022: The Biggest Wave Yet

If 2021 doubled the range, 2022 nearly did it again — twenty-two new pieces across the year, and the point where whimsy and sentiment both got serious investment.

Christmas Eve Magic

The Elf on the Shelf Arrival Postcard and Elf Footprints Stencil leaned fully into Christmas Eve tradition-building — the kind of small, ritual pieces families come back to every single year.

The Memorial Family Grows

Where 2019 and 2021 each added a single memorial design, 2022 added three at once: the Memory Wings Bauble, Brightest Star Memory Bauble, and Infinity Bauble. Together with the earlier Guardian Angel and In Loving Memory designs, this is the year our remembrance collection became a genuine family of pieces rather than a single design.

And a Genuine Christmas Tradition Investment

Our Activity Advent Calendar Set arrived in September 2022 — a set of 24 etched activity sticks designed to be reused every December. It remains one of the more ambitious pieces we've made, built for a decade of use rather than a single season.

The rest of the year rounded out with a Puzzle Piece Teacher Bauble, Perfect Date Bauble, Snowflake Bauble, Baby Bodysuit Bauble, Laurel Letter and Oh Starry Night Baubles, Baby's First Christmas Bauble, a Reindeer Bauble, Letter to Santa Bauble, Dog Bone Bauble, Script Bauble, Keepsake Discs, and Reindeer Hoofprints Stencil — plus new Personalised Letter Tags and a Mini Santa Treat Board.

What's Next

By the end of 2022, the range had grown from a handful of founding pieces into something approaching fifty designs — spanning collaborations, milestones, teacher gifts, pets, and a proper memorial family. Part 3 picks up in 2023, when the collection would get its first fully photographed, styled seasonal shoots — and the OG bauble would come full circle.
